The prophet Isaiah spoke of Him as a root out of dry ground, with no beauty that we should desire Him. He emerged from Nazareth, a town so insignificant that Nathanael asked, "Can anything good come from there?" The Messiah came from the north of human expectation, from the concealed quarter of God's hidden purposes. He was the northern army of the Lord, sent not to devour but to save, not to destroy but to restore. When He spoke of the kingdom of heaven, He called it a treasure hidden in a field — tsaphon language, the language of the concealed. And when He rose from the dead, He came from the ultimate hidden place — the tomb, the north of death itself — and emerged as the firstfruits of a new creation. The early church taught that in Yeshua, the northern army of judgment became the northern army of redemption. The locusts were turned to harvest. The destroyer became the Deliverer.
