Paul's Handkerchief is Bible study with a difference ā going word-by-word through Scripture to reclaim the Ancient Near East context, romance, and mystery that modern translations often leave behind.
Only about 3% of people around the world who start the Bible ever finish it. The 3% Club is for those ready to break that cycle ā reading the entire Bible at their own pace, backed by community and tools built to make finishing not just possible, but inevitable. You also get a certificate to celebrate your achievement.
Bible Cafe isn't just Bible study ā it's a personal, intimate conversation with Him. Think less classroom, more kitchen table. It combines the original Coffee with Jesus experience with activities like quizzes, crosswords, journaling and more, all designed to let the Word shape your heart, not just your head.
Most English Bibles can't carry the full weight of what's in the original Hebrew and Greek. The F.O.G Bible Project exists to change that ā three new translations built publicly (a Study Bible, a Reader's Bible, and F.O.G Jr. for younger readers), plus a word-by-word renewal of Strong's Concordance restoring the depths most translations leave behind. It is Jean Paul's lifelong work, unfolding in public ā and you're invited in.
Jean Paul Joseph is the lead editor of the F.O.G Bible Project. He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars ā because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

The Heartbeat of All Connection
Forty-six times does this tiny word, kĆ®y, pulse through the pages of Holy Scripture ā and yet it carries the weight of the universe within its two letters. It is a conjunction, a hinge, a door that swings between cause and consequence, between what was and what shall be. The rabbis of old observed that kĆ®y is not merely a grammatical tool; it is the breath that connects the Creatorās intention to His creation. When you speak kĆ®y, you are not just saying ābecauseā or āforā ā you are declaring that there is a reason behind every word, a purpose behind every act. This particle is the thread that binds the tapestry of Scripture together, from the first ālet there beā to the final āamen.ā
The Paleo-Hebrew Secret of the Letter Kaf
To understand kĆ®y, you must first look upon its letters in their ancient form. The first letter, kaf, was once drawn as the palm of an open hand ā a vessel ready to receive, or a hand extended to give. The second letter, yod, was the arm and the hand of action, the smallest yet most potent of all letters. Together, kaf and yod whisper a truth: that every connection begins with an open hand reaching out. The sages teach that the open palm of kaf represents the mercy of the Almighty, while the active hand of yod signifies His sovereign will. When you encounter kĆ®y in the text, you are standing at the intersection of divine mercy and divine purpose. It is no accident that this word introduces the very first command to Noah after the flood: āFor (kĆ®y) I will require a reckoning for the life of manā (Genesis 9:5). The open hand of God reaches out to establish justice, and the active hand of God seals it with consequence.
First Occurrence: The Gardenās Broken Hinge
The first appearance of kĆ®y in the Tanakh comes at the moment of humanityās greatest failure ā and Godās first promise of redemption. In Genesis 3:5, the serpent twists kĆ®y into a weapon: āFor (kĆ®y) God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened.ā Here the particle becomes the hinge of temptation, the ābecauseā that seduces Eve into doubting the goodness of her Creator. Yet only a few verses later, the same word appears in Godās voice: āCursed are you because (kĆ®y) you have done thisā (Genesis 3:14). Jewish tradition holds that kĆ®y in the mouth of the serpent is a counterfeit ā a false causation that leads to death, while the same word in the mouth of the Holy One is a true causation that leads to judgment and, ultimately, to the seed of the woman who will crush the serpentās head. From the very beginning, kĆ®y reveals that every ābecauseā has a destination: either toward the tree of life or away from it.
The Many Faces of a Single Word
The lexicon of kĆ®y is vast, like a diamond with countless facets. It can mean āfor,ā ābecause,ā āthat,ā āwhen,ā āsince,ā āthough,ā āif,ā āsurely,ā āindeed,ā and even ābut.ā The ancient sages would say that this word teaches you that reality is not simple ā every cause has many effects, and every effect has many causes. In Exodus 19:5, kĆ®y becomes the condition of covenant: āNow therefore, if (kĆ®y) you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession.ā Here it is a conditional hinge, swinging between obedience and blessing. Yet in Deuteronomy 7:7, the same word becomes the declaration of grace: āIt was not because (kĆ®y) you were more numerous than any other people that the Lord set His love upon you.ā The particle that once demanded obedience now reveals unmerited love. The early church understood this as the rhythm of the divine dance ā the law that leads to grace, the condition that opens into covenant. Every face of kĆ®y reflects the character of the One who speaks it.

The Temple Pattern and the Hinge of Atonement
Consider the Tabernacle, where every curtain hung on a hinge of gold. The High Priest could not enter the Holy of Holies except through the blood of atonement ā and that blood was applied because of sin. In Leviticus 16:16, the text declares that Aaron shall make atonement ābecause (kĆ®y) of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel.ā Here kĆ®y becomes the sacred logic of the sanctuary: sin requires blood, but blood brings forgiveness. The rabbis of old meditated on this mystery, teaching that the word kĆ®y in the context of atonement is like a key that unlocks the door between the holy and the common. Without this hinge, there is no passage from guilt to grace. Every sacrifice offered in the Temple carried the weight of this kĆ®y ā the ābecauseā that connected human failure to divine mercy. And when the veil of the Temple was torn from top to bottom, it was as if the final kĆ®y had been spoken, opening the way for all who would come.
The Gematria of Thirty: The Age of Beginning
The numerical value of kĆ®y is thirty ā a number that appears throughout Scripture as the age of preparation and consecration. Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh and began to rule Egypt (Genesis 41:46). David was thirty when he became king over Israel (2 Samuel 5:4). The Levites began their service in the Tabernacle at the age of thirty (Numbers 4:3). And the priests of Israel were numbered from thirty years old and upward. The ancient writings of Israel reflect that thirty is the number of maturity, the threshold at which a man is ready to bear the weight of responsibility. The gematria of kĆ®y whispers to you that every true connection ā every ābecauseā that binds cause to effect ā requires maturity to understand. You cannot grasp the reasons of God until you have been prepared, like Joseph in the prison, like David in the wilderness, like the priests before the altar. Thirty is the age of entering into the deep logic of heaven.
The Messianic Hinge: Yeshua and the Because of Redemption
When you turn to the Gospels, you find that Yeshua Himself is the living kĆ®y ā the great ābecauseā upon which all of history hinges. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed, āNot my will, but Yours be doneā ā and the Fatherās will was accomplished because of His obedience. In John 3:16, the most famous verse in all of Scripture begins with this particle: āFor (kĆ®y) God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.ā Here kĆ®y becomes the foundation of all hope: the love of God is the cause, and the gift of the Son is the effect. The apostolic tradition teaches that every ābecauseā in the Tanakh points toward this moment ā the seed of the woman, the sacrifice of Isaac, the blood on the doorposts, the bronze serpent lifted in the wilderness. Yeshua is the hinge upon which the door of salvation swings open. He is the kĆ®y that connects the brokenness of Eden to the restoration of the new creation. When you say ābecause of Yeshua,ā you are speaking the most powerful kĆ®y in all of heaven and earth.
A Blessing for Your Journey
Now this word is placed in your mouth. Every time you speak a ābecauseā into your own life, you are echoing the language of the Holy One. When you say, āI will forgive because I have been forgiven,ā you are using kĆ®y as a hinge of grace. When you say, āI will obey because He is faithful,ā you are connecting your small story to the great story of redemption. The rabbis of old taught that the two letters of kĆ®y ā the open hand and the active hand ā are a picture of how you are to live: with an open hand to receive from God, and an active hand to serve His purposes. Let every ābecauseā in your life be a testimony to the love that came first. Let your reasons be rooted in the only Reason that matters. Go forth, and let the hinge of your heart swing toward the light. For (kĆ®y) the Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever. Amen.
