Paul's Handkerchief is Bible study with a difference — going word-by-word through Scripture to reclaim the Ancient Near East context, romance, and mystery that modern translations often leave behind.
Only about 3% of people around the world who start the Bible ever finish it. Bible Cafe isn't just Bible study — it's a personal, intimate conversation with Him. Think less classroom, more kitchen table. It combines the original Coffee with Jesus experience with activities like quizzes, crosswords, journaling and more, all designed to let the Word shape your heart, not just your head.
Most English Bibles can't carry the full weight of what's in the original Hebrew and Greek. The F.O.G Bible Project exists to change that — three new translations built publicly (a Study Bible, a Reader's Bible, and F.O.G Jr. for younger readers), plus a word-by-word renewal of Strong's Concordance restoring the depths most translations leave behind. It is Jean Paul's lifelong work, unfolding in public — and you're invited in.
Jean Paul Joseph is the lead editor of the F.O.G Bible Project. He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

My Brother, My Help — The Cry of the Tribe
There is a name that sounds like a prayer whispered in the wilderness, a name that carries the ache of kinship and the hope of deliverance. אֲחִיעֶזֶר — Ahiezer — appears six times in the sacred scroll, each utterance a reminder that help comes from the place of covenant brotherhood. When you speak this name, you speak of one who is both a brother and a help, a man whose very identity declares that no son of Israel was ever meant to stand alone. The sages teach that a name given in faith becomes a prophecy, and here the prophecy is this: the help you need is bound to the brother you have been given.
Etymology Carved in Ancient Letters
To understand Ahiezer, you must look at the two roots that flow together like rivers joining in the valley. The first is אָח (ʼach), meaning brother, a word whose paleo-Hebrew letters speak of strength and connection — the aleph as the ox's head, the chet as the fence that binds. The second is עֵזֶר (ʻezer), meaning help, a word that first appears in Genesis when the Holy One declares He will make for Adam a help meet for him. The ancient sages observed that the same word עֵזֶר is used for the help that comes from the Most High Himself in Psalm 33:20, where Israel declares, "He is our help and our shield." Ahiezer carries this double weight: the help of a brother, and the help of God made tangible through the bond of blood and covenant.
The Son of Ammishaddai — A Leader in the Wilderness
Ahiezer first appears in the book of Numbers, standing as the prince of the tribe of Dan. In Numbers 1:12, he is named among those who would lead the people in the great census, a numbering that prepared Israel for the journey to the Promised Land. Jewish tradition holds that Dan was the tribe called to serve as the rear guard, the last to march, the ones who gathered the stragglers and protected the vulnerable from behind. Ahiezer, whose name means "brother of help," was perfectly suited for this sacred task. He was not the first in the procession, nor the most visible, but his role was no less holy — to ensure that no one was left behind. In this, he reflects the heart of the One who said, "I will not leave you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6).
The Offering of Dan — Silver and Gold for the Sanctuary
When the Tabernacle was erected in the wilderness, each tribe brought its offering. Ahiezer, as prince of Dan, presented a silver plate and a silver basin filled with fine flour mixed with oil, and a golden ladle filled with incense (Numbers 7:66-71). The rabbis of old noted that Dan's offering came on the seventh day, the day of completion, the Sabbath of the Lord. The silver speaks of redemption, the gold of divine nature, and the incense of prayer ascending before the throne. Ahiezer's gift was not merely metal and grain — it was a confession that even the tribe of Dan, the rear guard, the seemingly least, could bring an offering acceptable to the Holy One. There is no lesser service in the kingdom of God; there is only the offering of a willing heart.

The Scepter of Judgment and the Serpent's Trail
Yet the tribe of Dan carries a shadow. In Genesis 49:17, the dying Jacob prophesied that Dan would be a serpent in the way, an adder in the path. The ancient sages wrestled deeply with this, understanding that Dan's role was both protective and perilous. Ahiezer, whose name speaks of brotherly help, led a tribe that would later be associated with idolatry and wandering from the covenant. The name itself becomes a question: can the brother who brings help also be the one who leads astray? The answer lies not in the name alone, but in the heart of the one who bears it. Ahiezer's story is a mirror held up to every believer — you are called to be a help, but you must choose daily whose help you will bring. The apostolic tradition teaches that even the strongest gifts can be twisted if the heart is not anchored in the true Brother.
The Gematria of 296 — The Number of the Earth and the Seed
The name Ahiezer carries the gematria value of 296. In the Hebrew letters, this number is formed by the sum of various sacred words. Jewish wisdom teaches that 296 is the same value as the Hebrew word for "the earth" (הָאָרֶץ) when spelled in a particular form. This is no accident — Ahiezer, the brother of help, is rooted in the earth, in the physical, in the dust from which Adam was formed. The number also shares value with the word for "the seed" (הַזֶּרַע), pointing to the promise of offspring and the coming Seed who would crush the serpent's head. Ahiezer's gematria whispers of a hope that stretches beyond the wilderness — a hope that the help of a brother would one day become the help of the whole world through the Seed of the woman.
The Brother of Help Revealed in Yeshua
Ahiezer points beyond himself to the ultimate Brother of Help. In the Gospel of John, Yeshua declares, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live" (John 11:25). He is the true Brother who does not merely offer silver and gold, but pours out His own blood as the offering for the sanctuary of heaven. The early church understood that just as Ahiezer led the tribe of Dan in the wilderness, so Yeshua leads the people of God through the wilderness of this world. Where Ahiezer's help was temporary and bound to the Tabernacle made with hands, Yeshua's help is eternal, seated at the right hand of the Father. He is the Brother who does not leave you in the rear guard, but gathers you into the very presence of God.
You Are Called to Be Ahiezer
Now the name turns toward you. You have been given a brother — the Son of God — whose help never fails. But the name Ahiezer also calls you to become a brother of help to others. Look around you. Who is struggling in the rear guard of your community? Who has been left behind in the wilderness of this age? The Holy One has placed you in their path, not as a judge, but as a brother. Your silver and your gold may be small, but your offering of presence, of prayer, of faithful companionship is no less than Ahiezer's. Go, then, and be a help to your brother, for in doing so, you serve the One who called Himself the Son of Man, the Brother of all who are weary and heavy laden. Let your life be a name that speaks of help, until the day when the true Brother returns to gather His own.
