Your fortune, dear one, is meant to be positioned near the dwelling place of God. When you receive a blessing, do not separate it from the sanctuary. The troop that comes to you must be stationed around the altar, or it becomes a raiding band that plunders your soul. The early church understood this: they broke bread together and called their common life koinoniaâa shared portion that was also a shared battle against the powers of darkness.
The Messianic Troop: Yeshua and the Fortune of the Cross
How does the word gâd speak of the Messiah? Consider Yeshua at the cross. The soldiers cast lots for His garmentsâthey divided His portion as if He were a conquered prize. But the apostolic tradition teaches that His fortune was not taken from Him; He became the fortune for all who believe. When He cried out, âIt is finished,â He was completing the work of the seventh day, the gematria of gâd fulfilled. He was the troop pressed upon by the nations, yet He pressed upon the heel of death itself. In the Tanakh, the tribe of Gad produced warriors who crossed the Jordan ahead of their brothers to fight for the land. So too did Yeshua cross the river of death ahead of us, fighting to secure our inheritance. Your fortune is not in silver or gold, but in the blood-stained portion He won for you.

And now, beloved, I speak directly to you. Look at your lifeânot with the eyes of comparison to others, but with the eyes of faith. What fortune has come to you? Is it a family, a calling, a trial, a gift? That which you call your portion is actually a troop. It has been sent to press upon you so that you might learn to press upon the enemy. Do not shrink from the warfare hidden in your blessing. Do not mistake the sword at your side for mere ornament. The ancient Hebrew letters of gâd teach that your camel-borne burden is the very door through which you will enter your promised land. Rise, then, and take up your portion. The troop of heaven has been assigned to you, and the Captain of the Lord's host goes before you. Your fortune is not fateâit is a fight. And the victory is already sealed in the seventh day of the One who crushed the serpent's head.
