צֶמַח (Tzemach) = Branch/Shoot/Sprout — a formal messianic title in the Hebrew prophets (Jer 23:5; 33:15; Zech 3:8), always pointing to the coming Davidic king-deliverer. The wordplay is deliberate and nearly untranslatable: the name Tzemach ('Branch') is immediately followed by the verb יִצְמָח (yitzmach, 'he will branch/sprout forth') — 'Branch is his name and from beneath him he will branch.' F.O.G preserves the Hebrew title 'Tzemach' and renders the verb 'branch forth' to let the sonic echo carry. F.O.G Message uses 'the Branch' (the established messianic rendering in English) with 'branch upward' to make the same verbal play audible. וּמִתַּחְתָּיו ('from beneath/under him') is grammatically ambiguous — it may mean 'from his humble station' (emphasising lowly origins), 'from his very roots/foundation' (organic growth upward), or simply 'from where he stands.'
