אוּד מֻצָּל מֵאֵשׁ (ud mutzal me'esh) — a partially charred stick barely rescued from burning, used identically in Amos 4:11 of Israel's near-annihilation in exile. F.O.G uses "brand snatched from the fire" for its poetic compression and intertextual echo of Amos; F.O.G Message uses "smoldering stick pulled from the flames" for visceral immediacy. Equally notable: YHWH speaks yet refers to Himself in the third person ("YHWH rebuke you"), a reverential formula that may indicate the Messenger of YHWH speaking as YHWH while maintaining a distinction — a tension with profound christological freight in later reflection.
