תַּחַת גֶּפֶן וְתַּחַת תְּאֵנָה ("under vine and under fig tree") is the defining biblical image of covenant shalom and Edenic abundance (cf. 1 Kings 4:25; Micah 4:4) — rest, security, and fruitfulness as the eschatological goal of all history. In Micah 4, this image follows the universal beating of swords into ploughshares. Here, Zechariah makes the causal link explicit: the single day's atonement of verse 9 directly unlocks this universal shalom, forging an inextricable connection between priestly expiation and cosmic peace.
