Mayim chayyim ('living waters') specifically denotes fresh, flowing spring water — the opposite of stagnant cistern water — and in the ancient Near East, access to such water was survival itself. The image deliberately echoes Eden's four-directional rivers (Gen 2:10–14), Ezekiel's life-giving temple river (Ezek 47:1–12), and Yeshua's self-identification as the source of living water (John 4:10; 7:37–38). The perennial flow — 'summer and winter' — emphasises supernatural, covenant-sustaining provision that defies natural seasons.
