Mias gynaikos andra (μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα) literally means "a man of one woman." Three readings compete: (1) not polygamous, (2) not remarried, or (3) faithfully devoted to his one wife — a "one-woman man." The third has the strongest grammatical support, speaking to singular marital devotion rather than marital history. Tekna pista can mean either "faithful/well-ordered" (F.O.G) or "believing/converted" (F.O.G Message) — both are linguistically defensible, but the distinction matters for whether Paul requires elders to have Christian children or simply well-governed ones.
