תַּפּוּחַ (tappuaḥ) is traditionally rendered "apple," but the apple (Malus domestica) was largely unknown in ancient Canaan; most botanists and biblical scholars identify this tree as the apricot (Prunus armeniaca) or quince — prized for fragrance, shade, and sweetness. The F.O.G chooses "apricot" for historical accuracy. חִכִּי (ḥikki) = my palate/throat — viscerally gustatory language; love is tasted, not merely felt.
