זָמִיר (zamir) carries a brilliant double meaning: (1) singing/music (from זמר I) and (2) pruning/trimming of vines (from זמר II, the agricultural term for vine-pruning in early spring). Both are simultaneously apt — the season of vineyard work and the season of joyful song arrive together. Both versions lean toward "singing" as primary, while this note preserves the agricultural overtone. The turtledove (תּוֹר, tor) was migratory; its spring arrival was a living calendar-mark of new life.
