The verb מָכְרָה (makharah, "is selling") uses the Hebrew perfect tense, which can reflect a completed transaction or an ongoing offer—a legal ambiguity ancient hearers would have felt. Some scholars suggest Naomi had already transferred rights informally, with this gate proceeding serving as formal ratification under the kinsman-redeemer law of Leviticus 25:25.
