The verb vayillaphet (וַיִּלָּפֵת) is unusual — a rare form whose root laphat appears only a handful of times in the Hebrew Bible, likely meaning to twist, turn, or grope in the dark. It conveys Boaz waking in disorientation, turning over to find the source of his alarm. The dramatic hinne (הִנֵּה, 'behold!') is the narrator's own exclamation point, inviting the reader to share in Boaz's shock. FOG preserves 'and behold' to honour the narrative's dramatic texture; FOG Message uses 'and there' for natural English immediacy.
