The Hebrew margelotav (מַרְגְּלֹתָיו, from regel, foot/leg) refers to the area of his feet or legs. Some interpreters have read this as a euphemism, but the narrative gives no compelling evidence for that reading — Ruth uses regel and margelot in their literal sense throughout, and Naomi's plan is a covenantal appeal, not a seduction. The uncovering of the feet is a posture of vulnerability and submission, inviting Boaz to notice Ruth's presence and recognise his obligation. Both FOG and FOG Message render this literally, letting the evocative ambiguity of the scene speak for itself.
