Boaz describes Ruth's choice as a greater act of hesed (חֶסֶד — covenant-love, loyal faithfulness, steadfast kindness) than her first. Her first hesed was leaving her homeland for Naomi (1:8); her latter hesed is now choosing an older kinsman-redeemer over eligible young men, for the sake of covenant obligation and family continuity. Hesed is the relational glue of covenant — action born of loyalty even at personal cost, not merely warm feeling. FOG renders 'covenant-love' to honour the covenantal register; FOG Message uses 'covenant faithfulness' to foreground the active, disciplined dimension of the word.
