וַתֵּהֹם כָּל הָעִיר (vattehem kol ha'ir) — 'the whole city was stirred / in tumult.' הוּם (hum) is a strong word for commotion and agitation — used of battle uproar (1 Samuel 4:5) and divine shaking (Psalm 83:15). Naomi's return is not a quiet homecoming; it shakes the town. The women's cry — הֲזֹאת נָעֳמִי (hazot Naomi), 'Is this Naomi?' — carries the interrogative particle הֲ (ha), signalling genuine disbelief: she is barely recognisable. FOG renders this as a question of identity; FOG Message adds 'really' to capture the shocked disbelief embedded in the Hebrew particle.
