Sha'ul stacks two military terms: ἀντιστρατευόμενον (antistrateuomenon)—"waging a campaign against" (lit. "soldiering against")—and αἰχμαλωτίζοντά (aichmalōtizonta)—"taking me captive as a prisoner of war" (lit. "spear-captive," one seized at spear-point). The picture is not mere moral tension but active warfare and enslavement: the flesh is a hostile army that has engaged the mind in combat and taken the self prisoner. νόμῳ τοῦ νοός (nomō tou noos), "the law of the mind," corresponds to the inner person of v. 22 that aligns with Torah; the "law of sin in my members" is the counter-principle operating through the sarx. Both versions preserve the prisoner-of-war image because it is lexically precise, not merely figurative.
