He received circumcision as a sign — a seal certifying the righteousness he already possessed by faith while still uncircumcised — so that he would become the father of all who believe without being circumcised, and so righteousness would be credited to them too.
He received the sign of circumcision as a seal — the seal of the righteousness he had through trust whilst still uncircumcised — so that he might be the father of all who trust whilst uncircumcised, that righteousness might be reckoned to them as well,
