Sha'ul's argument hinges on the Genesis sequence: faith was reckoned as righteousness in Genesis 15, while circumcision was not instituted until Genesis 17 — an interval rabbinic tradition estimated at approximately 14–29 years. The Greek phrases ἐν περιτομῇ / ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ denote states or conditions, but the temporal implication (before/after) is unavoidable. This sequencing is Sha'ul's clinching exegetical move: FOG preserves the state-language; FOG Message makes the temporal point explicit for clarity.
