The Greek mē genoito is a strong optative of wish — literally "may it not come to be!" — the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew ḥālîlâh (far be it!), Paul's sharpest rhetorical rejection, used six times in Romans alone. FOG renders "May it never be!" to preserve its Jewish-covenantal register; FOG Message uses "Absolutely not!" for visceral immediacy. The quotation is from Psalm 51:4.
