It is Jean Paul's lifelong work, unfolding in public — and you're invited in.

autōn ("Their" wrath): The pronoun autōn is grammatically plural, linking the wrath jointly to both the One on the throne and the Lamb — "their wrath" together. A significant minority of manuscripts reads autou (singular, "his wrath"), which would refer to the Lamb alone. The plural reading has stronger manuscript support (including Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Alexandrinus) and is the more theologically complex and therefore less likely to be a scribal simplification — it unites Father and Son in a single eschatological judgement. Both translations render "Their" accordingly. The closing question echoes Malachi 3:2 and Nahum 1:6 — "who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when He appears?" — and was almost certainly a deliberate intertextual signal to readers steeped in Hebrew Scripture.
