He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

Footnotes

The Greek ζῷα (zōa) — "living creatures" — renders the Hebrew חַיּוֹת (hayyot) of Ezekiel 1, the four-faced throne-bearers of the divine chariot (merkavah). The KJV's "beasts" carries entirely wrong connotations; "living creatures" preserves the numinous, animate character of these throne-guardians. The "glassy sea" (θάλασσα ὑαλίνη, thalassa hyalinē) echoes both the bronze sea of Solomon's Temple and the chaotic primordial waters subdued at creation — the cosmos rendered still and transparent before the divine throne, chaos conquered and crystallised.
