emesai = to vomit — the word is medically precise and visceral (the root of the English "emesis"). The imagery almost certainly alludes to Laodicea's water supply: unlike the therapeutic hot springs of nearby Hierapolis or the cold fresh springs of Colossae, Laodicea's aqueduct water arrived tepid and mineral-laden, notorious for causing nausea. F.O.G preserves the full visceral force with "vomit"; F.O.G Message softens to "spit out" for liturgical readability, though at the cost of the original's raw revulsion.
