archē tēs ktiseōs tou theou — archē can mean (1) beginning in temporal sequence (suggesting a first-created being — the Arian reading), (2) originating source from which creation derives (cf. Col 1:16-18, "through Him and for Him all things were created"), or (3) ruling authority over creation (cf. Col 1:18). The Col 1 parallel makes reading (1) the least coherent for this author. F.O.G renders "Originating Source" to stress creative derivation; F.O.G Message renders "Sovereign Beginning" to hold both origin and authority together. The unique title "the Amen" (ho amēn) almost certainly alludes to Isa 65:16 (Hebrew elohei amen, "God of faithfulness/Amen"), identifying Yeshua as the embodiment of YHWH's own faithful truthfulness.
