τετράγωνος (tetragonos) means "four-cornered/foursquare," but since length, width, and height are all identical, the shape is a perfect cube. This is a direct architectural echo of the Most Holy Place (דְּבִיר, devir) in Solomon's Temple (1 Kings 6:20), which was also a perfect cube—twenty cubits in each dimension. The entire New Jerusalem IS the Holy of Holies; the whole renewed creation has become the innermost sanctuary of YHWH. Twelve thousand stadia is approximately 2,200 kilometres per side—a scale that renders the city cosmically, not merely architecturally.
