He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

"New song" (ᾠδὴ καινή / שִׁיר חָדָשׁ, shir chadash) in the Psalter always heralds a fresh act of divine deliverance (Ps. 33:3; 40:3; 96:1; 149:1; Isa. 42:10). "Learn" (μαθεῖν) implies experiential, participatory knowledge — only those who have been purchased through the suffering-path can sing it. "Redeemed" (ἠγορασμένοι) is marketplace/slave-redemption language: bought back at full price.
