He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

Footnotes

πνεῦμα (pneuma, "breath/spirit/wind") counterfeits the divine breath of Gen 2:7, where YHWH breathes life into the adam. The false prophet animates an idol — a grotesque parody of creation itself. FOG renders πνεῦμα as "breath" to stay close to the Genesis echo; FOG Message renders it "breath of life" to make the creation-parody explicit and audible. The animated image that kills its non-worshippers is the ultimate idolatrous inversion: the creature that should image God is replaced by a man-made image that demands worship on pain of death.
