The wilderness (ἔρημος, eremos) carries dense Exodus resonance — the very terrain where YHWH sustained Israel with manna and water during their flight from Pharaoh. The passive "be sustained" (τρέφωσιν — indefinite plural, "they nourish her") implies divine provision without naming the agent. 1,260 days = 42 months = 3½ years, the same period as "a time, times, and half a time" (Daniel 7:25; 12:7), confirming that John is consciously mapping Daniel's end-time timetable onto the woman's ordeal.
