*Elyon* (Most High) is one of the oldest divine epithets in the Hebrew Bible, appearing in Genesis 14:18–20 (Melchizedek's blessing) and Deuteronomy 32:8, where it was *Elyon* who assigned the nations to the *elohim* — yet YHWH Himself claimed Ya'akov's portion. This verse draws that ancient tradition to its conclusion: the Elyon who distributed nations is YHWH Himself, and He now reigns supreme over every subordinate *elohim*. FOG retains the Hebrew title *Elyon* as a divine name; FOG Message renders 'the Most High' in keeping with traditional English usage.
