Three instruments are named: *asor* (a ten-stringed instrument, possibly a lute or psaltery), *navel* (a large-bodied stringed instrument—its precise form is uncertain, variously translated harp or lute), and *kinnor* (the lyre, the instrument most closely associated with David and the Levitical singers). The word *higgayon* is rare and debated: it likely denotes a solemn, meditative musical quality or mode of playing (cf. Psalm 9:16; Lamentations 3:62), possibly signalling a slower, more contemplative register. FOG preserves the Hebrew instrument names to honour their ancient specificity; FOG Message substitutes familiar English equivalents for readability.
