Two distinct Hebrew words for humanity appear here: אֱנֹושׁ (enosh) — mortal, frail man, with connotations of creaturely weakness — and בְנֵי-אָדָם (benei-adam), 'sons of Adam,' evoking the first man and his dust-born lineage (cf. Gen. 2:7; 3:19). The verb דַּכָּא (dakka) means to crush or pulverise — to be ground back to fine powder — not a gentle return. The divine command shuvu ('Return!') directly echoes Genesis 3:19 and creates a covenantal irony: the same word is hurled back at God in v. 13. FOG preserves both terms; FOG Message renders 'frail humanity' for enosh.
