*Galgal* (גַּלְגַּל), a reduplicated form of *galal* (to roll), denotes a spinning disc — likely a dry thistle or tumbleweed rolling helplessly across the landscape with no direction of its own. The image strips the enemy of all volition: they become objects at the mercy of forces beyond them. The same root yields *Galil* (Galilee, "the rolling region") and *Gilgal* ("place of rolling"). FOG renders "whirling wheel" to preserve the rotational motion; FOG Message uses "tumbleweeds" for vivid, contemporary imagery.
