This verse is among the most contested in the Psalter. *Challoti* can mean 'my sickness / my wound' (FOG) or 'my grief / what pierces me' (FOG Message), from the root *chalah*, to be weak or sick. The phrase *shinot yamin Elyon* is grammatically ambiguous: *shinot* can be 'years' (reading a noun) or 'changes / has changed' (reading a verb from *shanah*). Some translations take it as a positive pivot — 'I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High' — but FOG and FOG Message both follow the reading that identifies the apparent *change* in God's powerful right hand as the wound itself. This verse is the psalm's hinge: the poet names his deepest pain before turning deliberately toward memory of God's mighty acts.
