He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

The Hebrew *harim* ("lifting up/exaltation") deliberately echoes *tarimu* ("raise") from vv. 4–5, tying the futility of self-exaltation to its source: no point of the compass — east (*motsa*, literally "the going out," i.e., the sunrise), west (*ma'arav*, "the going in," i.e., sunset), or the desert south (*midbar*) — can grant true elevation. Notably absent is north (*tsaphon*), which in ancient Israelite cosmology is the locus of divine presence and judgment (Ps. 48:2; Isa. 14:13; Jer. 1:14) — its omission is eloquent: the north does not grant exaltation because that is where the Judge enthroned already is. The verse performs the argument rhetorically by exhausting human horizons before the answer of v. 7. Both translations preserve the compass-survey sweep.
