Footnotes
Mofet ('portent, sign, wonder') most commonly refers to alarming divine signs, including the plagues of Egypt (Ex. 11:9–10). Here the psalmist uses it of himself: his suffering has made him a living spectacle that others interpret as evidence of God's abandonment. The verse pivots sharply—the same life others read as a warning sign, Yahweh reads as His own. F.O.G. retains the ominous weight of 'portent'; F.O.G.M. unpacks it as 'a sign of wonder they could not explain.'
