*Gozi* (גּוֹזִי) — 'the one who brought me forth' — is one of the Psalter's most debated words. From the root *gazaz* (to cut or shear), it may picture YHWH as the divine midwife who presided at birth, cutting the umbilical cord. The LXX renders it 'protector.' Both translations capture the sense of YHWH's care predating conscious faith — a stunning claim that anticipates Psalm 139:13–16 and the Servant's call from the womb in Isaiah 49:1.
