*Bor* (בּוֹר) and *shachat* (שַׁחַת) are near-synonyms for pit, cistern, or grave — both used elsewhere for death and Sheol. The verbal repetition of digging (*karah... yachperihu*) emphasises the deliberate, laboured effort to destroy another — and the devastating irony that the digger falls in himself. This poetic-justice pattern (the trap that ensnares its maker) is a recurring biblical motif: Proverbs 26:27, Esther 7 (Haman's gallows built for Mordecai), and Daniel 6. It presents divine retribution operating not through miraculous intervention but through the self-destructive logic of wickedness itself.
