*Shiggayon* (שִׁגָּיוֹן) is a rare and disputed musical or literary term, possibly from the root *shagah* (שָׁגָה — to wander, to reel), suggesting a wild, staggering lament; some scholars link it to the Akkadian *šigû*, a cultic lamentation. The term appears only here and in Habakkuk 3:1, giving it a distinctly raw, urgent character. *Kush the Benjaminite* is otherwise unknown, though ancient Jewish tradition sometimes identified him with Saul — whose tribe was Benjamin and whose words brought unjust accusation against David. *Chasiti* (חָסִיתִי), from the root *chasah* (חָסָה — to take shelter, to dart into a refuge), carries a visceral, physical image: a creature fleeing into a rock-cleft or fortress for safety. It is the same root underlying *chasid* — the loyal one who shelters in God. This is not passive resignation but urgent, embodied shelter-seeking. The dash at the end of both translations replicates the Hebrew syntax, where the plea for rescue flows unbroken into the lion-threat of verse 2. FOG renders *rodphai* as "hunt" to anticipate the predatory imagery of verse 2; FOG Message uses the traditional "pursue."
