Footnotes
The word yahav (burden/what has been allotted to you) is a rare Aramaic loanword carrying the nuance not merely of a heavy load but of one's divinely appointed portion or lot in life. To 'cast your yahav' is to surrender to YHWH not only your burdens but your entire life-situation as He has arranged it—a radical act of covenant trust. The verb yechalkelecha (He will sustain you, from kul = to contain, nourish, support) suggests the image of being held and provided for within God's encompassing care. This verse is drawn upon in 1 Pet 5:7 ('Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you'), giving it significant New Testament theological freight. F.O.G renders 'sustain you' to preserve the covenantal-provision sense; F.O.G.M 'hold you steady' emphasises the relational, stabilising dimension that anticipates Peter's development of the promise.
