fraud and treachery never leave the marketplace.
Ruin is within it;
oppression and deceit do not depart from its public squares.

Footnotes
The word havvot (ruin/calamities) is a plural of intensity—not a single disaster but accumulated, layered catastrophe woven into the city's fabric. The word tok (oppression/crushing) may derive from a root meaning to crush underfoot, suggesting structural, systemic harm rather than isolated acts of wrongdoing. F.O.G renders the inventory of civic evil plainly; F.O.G.M gives ruin a slightly personified presence ('moved in and made itself at home') to convey how thoroughly corruption has been normalised in city life.
