Footnotes
Hatsmiitem is from the root tsmt, meaning to cut off, destroy, or annihilate. Is an imprecatory verb of forceful finality. Crucially, this destruction is grounded not in personal revenge but in amittkha ("Your faithfulness/truth," from emet)—YHWH's own covenant integrity is the warrant for vindicating the innocent. This is not vengeance; it is a plea that reality align with covenant. FOG renders "cut them off" to preserve the severity of the term; FOG Message uses "silence them utterly" to capture both the finality and the sense that God's emet speaks the decisive last word.
