The companion term *mizmor* (מִזְמוֹר) denotes not a generic song but specifically a melody accompanied by a plucked instrument—a precision English's "psalm" loses. *Hagiygiy* (הֲגִיגִי), from the root *hagah* (to murmur, moan, or meditate aloud), is not abstract inner reflection but a low, half-audible sound—the kind of utterance made when one talks to oneself under great pressure, or when grief forces its way out as a groan. David is not merely asking YHWH to listen to words, but to *understand* the sub-verbal sound beneath them.
