The MT reads קִרְבָּם (*qirbam*, "their inward parts" or "their inner thought"), which could mean the psalmist is exposing their private delusion: they imagine their houses are permanent. However, the LXX reads קִבְרָם (*qivram*, "their graves")—a single-letter variant that yields the cutting irony: the grave, not the mansion, is their actual eternal home. Most modern translations follow the LXX reading as the more contextually coherent and rhetorically powerful choice. Both FOG and FOG Message adopt the LXX reading ("graves" / "tombs"), since the contrast between their pretensions to permanence and their real destination best serves the psalm's argument. The final image—calling lands after one's own name—echoes the hubris of Absalom (2 Sam. 18:18) and anticipates the Babel impulse: to make one's name permanent by inscription on the earth.
