*Maskil* (מַשְׂכִּיל, maskil) derives from the root שָׂכַל (sakal), meaning to be wise, prudent, or to have penetrating insight — likely designating a contemplative or didactic poem crafted to impart understanding through artistic skill. The *Sons of Korach* were a hereditary guild of temple musicians and poets descended from Korah (Num. 16) and rehabilitated by divine grace after their ancestor's rebellion — a quietly significant irony given this psalm's anguished theme of undeserved suffering. FOG preserves 'Maskil' as a technical transliteration; FOG Message retains it likewise, setting it within a more familiar liturgical framing.
