The silence of v.9 deliberately echoes the self-imposed silence of v.2, but with a crucial shift. In v.2, David restrained himself by sheer willpower; here *נֶאֱלַמְתִּי* (ne'elamti) is niphal passive — "I have been made mute" — a theological surrender rather than a moral effort. "For it is You who have done this" is one of the psalm's most arresting lines: a bare, undeflected acknowledgment that God Himself is the agent behind the suffering. FOG renders "struck dumb" to convey the passive divine action; FOG Message uses "speechless" to make the resignation immediate and visceral.
