*Tochachot* (plural of *tochekhah*) literally means "reproofs" or "formal arguments" — here the counter-arguments or legal defences one would normally mount against accusers. The psalmist offers none; his only appeal is silence before men and hope before YHWH (v.15). This forensic use of the *yakach* root links back to the opening verse (*tokhicheni*), framing the whole psalm structurally in the language of a divine courtroom: the psalmist is being tried, and he refuses to argue his case with anyone but YHWH. FOG uses "counter-arguments" to preserve the legal register; FOG Message renders it "no answers" for emotional directness.
