Footnotes
*Naphshenu* ("our soul") here means "our craving" or "our appetite" — the *nephesh* as longing and will, not a disembodied spirit. The idiom of "swallowing" (*bila'anuhu*) is vivid: total consumption, obliteration, as Sheol swallows the dead (Proverbs 1:12) or the great fish swallows Jonah. FOG renders *our desire* for the *nephesh*-as-appetite; FOG Message expands to *exactly what we craved* for modern readability while preserving the hunger imagery.
