"Devour my flesh" (*le'ekhol et besari*) is raw predatory language — the imagery of a beast or advancing army tearing a victim apart. The psalmist's confidence is encoded in the word order: though enemies intend to eat, the emphatic *hemmah* ("they themselves") are the ones who collapse. The verb *kashlu* (כָשְׁלוּ), "stumbled," often connotes simultaneous military defeat and moral failure. FOG preserves the visceral "devour"; FOG Message uses "consume" for a slightly wider register while retaining the brutality.
