Footnotes
Mizmor (מִזְמוֹר) is a technical musical term denoting a composition performed with stringed instruments—distinct from shir (song) or tefillah (prayer-poem). F.O.G. retains mizmor to honor this precision; F.O.G.M. uses the familiar 'Psalm.' The image of YHWH as shepherd (ro'i, רֹעִי) carries unmistakable royal freight in the ancient Near East: kings were called shepherds of their people, so the psalmist is claiming sovereign covenantal care. F.O.G. renders lo echsar (לֹא אֶחְסָר) as 'I shall lack nothing'—stressing present material sufficiency; F.O.G.M. renders 'I have everything I need,' foregrounding relational completeness.
