חֶלְקִי (*chelki*, 'my portion') is the language of tribal land allotment — the inheritance assigned to each Israelite family in Canaan. Strikingly, the Levites were told their portion was YHWH Himself rather than territory (Num. 18:20; Deut. 10:9). David, landless and hunted, appropriates this priestly declaration: YHWH is his inheritance. 'Land of the living' (אֶרֶץ הַחַיִּים) refers to the present realm of embodied existence — not a future afterlife — making this a claim staked in the here and now. FOG renders 'portion' to echo the covenantal allotment language; FOG Message uses 'inheritance' to make that covenantal weight audible to a contemporary ear.
